Privacy Policy

Black Robotics (“we”, “us”) operates blackrobotics.tech and the Black Robotics mobile application for Android and iOS. We collect short, opt-in recordings of everyday work tasks and use them to build training datasets for the next generation of physical-world AI systems.

We only collect what you explicitly choose to send us. There is no background data collection.

• Recordings you upload — video (with audio), inertial measurement (accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer) sampled at ~100 Hz, the task ID you selected, and the timestamp of capture. Used to build training datasets and to improve the app.
• Account information — your email address, supplied during sign-in via a one-time code. Used to attribute uploads to you, to let you delete your data, and (where applicable) to pay contributors.
• App diagnostics— anonymous crash reports and event names (e.g. “upload completed”) plus app version, device platform, and IP address. Used to fix bugs and measure feature reliability. We do not use these for advertising.
• Waitlist signups — name, email, and the work type you selected on the website waitlist. Used to notify you about beta access.

We do not collect: precise or coarse location, contacts, calendar, SMS, photos other than the ones you record in-app, browsing history, biometrics, financial information, or device identifiers beyond what is necessary for the app to function.

• Camera + microphone— only used while you are actively in the Record screen and only after you tap “Position camera”. We do not access either in the background.
• Motion sensors — accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer at ~100 Hz, only during an active recording.

We do not request location, storage, contacts, SMS, or background-running permissions.

Recordings live on your device only as long as needed to complete the upload. Once upload succeeds, the recording is automatically deleted from the device. The uploaded copy is stored in our Google Cloud Storage bucket in the us-central1 region (Iowa, USA). Account records and analytics events are stored in Google Cloud Firestore (multi-region nam5, USA).

Crash and diagnostic reports may be processed by Sentry (a data processor based in the USA) when enabled in production builds.

Outbound email (the one-time sign-in code) is delivered via Resend (USA).

• Recordings — retained indefinitely as part of training datasets unless you request deletion. Datasets may be shared with research partners under the terms described in the next section.
• Account record— retained while your account is active. Deleted within 30 days of your “Delete my data” request.
• One-time sign-in codes — purged within 10 minutes of issuance, or immediately after successful verification.
• Crash + diagnostic events — retained 90 days then purged from our active systems.

We share recordings, in aggregated and per-episode form, with vetted robotics and AI research organizations and customers as part of training datasets. Each recipient is bound by a data-use agreement that prohibits re-identification and restricts onward sharing.

We share account-level data only with the service providers listed above (Google Cloud, Sentry, Resend), and only as needed for the service to function. We do not sell personal information.

You can, at any time:

• Delete everything— Settings → “Delete all my data” in the mobile app, or email privacy@blackrobotics.tech. We will purge your account, every recording attributed to your email, and all associated analytics within 30 days.
• Export — request a copy of everything we hold about you by emailing privacy@blackrobotics.tech. Returned within 30 days.
• Withdraw consent — sign out of the app and stop uploading. Past recordings remain until deletion is requested.

EU/UK/CA residents: you also have the right to object to processing and to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority.

The app is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under that age. If you believe a child has used the app, email privacy@blackrobotics.tech and we will delete the data.

Uploads use Google-signed v4 URLs scoped to a single object key, valid for 30 minutes. Account tokens are HMAC-signed and stored in your device's secure keystore (iOS Keychain / Android Keystore). All network traffic uses HTTPS / TLS 1.2+. No system is perfectly secure; if you suspect a vulnerability, email privacy@blackrobotics.tech.

Material changes (anything that expands what we collect, who we share with, or how long we keep it) will be announced at least 30 days in advance via email and an in-app banner. Non-material changes (typos, clarifications) take effect on posting.
